ADVISORY Acts as Project Counsel on the Phase II development of the Otakikpo Marginal Field

ADVISORY Legal Consultants is pleased to have advised the Green Energy International Limited (GEIL) and Lekoil Oil and Gas Investments Limited (LEKOIL) Joint Venture in respect of a drilling program and the development and sharing of infrastructure within the Otakikpo marginal field in OML 11 block.

 

The development of this world-class project, which will be managed by Schlumberger, has forged ahead in spite of the low oil price environment. As Project Counsel, we developed and assisted the JV with the negotiations of key project contracts including agreements for the drilling program, the use of all facilities to be developed for the evacuation of crude oil from the Otakikpo field and, for the overall management of the project.

New Partner Announcement

We are pleased to announce that Olajumoke Arowolo is the newest Partner in our Firm.

 

Olajumoke is a seasoned commercial lawyer with a practice focused on the energy and infrastructure sectors. She has a deep understanding of contractual frameworks, deal dynamics and financing structures for projects in the petroleum and wider energy sector.

 

She is actively engaged as counsel in asset acquisitions, structured financings, and some landmark energy projects. We are especially proud of the significant role she has played in the past couple of years as lead external legal counsel to the West African Gas Pipeline Company Limited on a set of complex regulatory and transactional assignments underpinning the development of the Western Interconnection Project for the enlargement and extension of the West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) – the regional gas pipeline in West Africa constructed across 4 countries. She is also currently leading the drafting and review of financing agreements in respect of an ongoing multimillion-dollar project for the development of upstream and midstream facilities by a joint venture of Nigerian independents.

ADVISORY hosts Business Luncheon on the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme

On March 7, 2019, ADVISORY hosted gas producers and gas project developers to a business luncheon discussion on the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialisation Programme (“NGFCP”).

The event was organised to commemorate the return to the firm of one of its founding partners, Gbite Adeniji, who had taken a leave of absence to serve as Senior Technical Adviser (Upstream and Gas Policy and Regulations) to the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources between January 2016 and December 2018. The NGFCP was one of Gbite Adeniji’s signature achievements, together with the Flare Gas (Prevention of Waste and Pollution) Regulations, 2018, the Nigerian Gas Policy, 2017, the Nigerian Petroleum Policy, 2016 and a host of other reform initiatives.

The discussion was led by Gbite Adeniji and Pacer Guobadia.

ADVISORY’s ‘Gbite Adeniji Appointed Senior Technical Adviser to the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum

Advisory Legal Consultants is proud to announce that one of its Chief Consultants, Gbite Adeniji, has been appointed by the Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachukwu, to serve as the Senior Technical Adviser on Upstream and Gas. This appointment comes on the back of several prior consulting roles he has held with the Federal Government, international development organisations and industry stakeholders involving the formulation and implementation of oil and gas sector policies, the drafting of sector laws and regulations and the development of a robust commercial framework for the domestic gas market.

In his new role, Gbite is supporting the Honourable Minister on renewed efforts to reform and restructure the petroleum industry. A key part of his assignment will be the passage of four bills that are intended to replace the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB).

ADVISORY Welcomes AfDB Legal Consultant Back to the Firm

ADVISORY Legal Consultants is happy to announce that Tunde Simoyan, has returned to the firm following a fifteen-month stint at the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Tunis and Abidjan where he served as a Legal Consultant – Private Sector Operations. During his time at the AfDB, Tunde advised on several multi-million dollar financings and public-private partnerships projects across Africa including the financing of a $4 billion cross-border railway project in East Africa. He also advised on the financing of several financial institutions across the continent.

Tunde joined the firm in 2013 as a Senior Consultant with a practice focus on energy and infrastructure finance. Prior to ADVISORY, he served as Chief Legal Advisor at the Sahara Group Limited, Vice President, Legal at Oceanic Capital and Associate at a leading law firm in California. His experience providing corporate counsel to oil and gas firms, financial institutions and other private businesses across multiple jurisdictions will strengthen the firm’s ability to meet the evolving needs of our clients.
